Premium Wagyu Bull Calves for Sale: The Genetics Behind the World's Most Prized Beef

World-renowned marbling genetics in a growing calf — ready to transform your beef operation. Available now from Wann Ranch in Oklahoma.

Wagyu beef is not just steak. It is an experience. The extraordinary marbling, the buttery texture, the flavor that lingers on your palate — this is what happens when generations of selective breeding meet meticulous care.

At Wann Ranch, we are proud to offer premium Wagyu bull calves to beef producers across America. Whether you are looking to upgrade your crossbreeding program or start a purebred Wagyu operation, these calves carry the genetics that command premium prices.

Why Wagyu? The Economics of Premium Beef

Wagyu is not a niche breed anymore. It is a market force. American Wagyu beef consistently commands 2–3 times the price of conventional beef at wholesale — and significantly more at retail and restaurant levels.

Here is why Wagyu makes financial sense:

  • Superior marbling – Wagyu cattle marble more intensively and at an earlier age than any other breed. This means higher USDA grades and premium pricing.

  • Crossbreeding premium – A Wagyu bull used on Angus cows produces F1 American Wagyu calves that combine the marbling genetics of Wagyu with the growth and hardiness of Angus. These calves command significant premiums.

  • Growing demand – The market for premium and luxury beef continues to expand. Wagyu is no longer just for high-end steakhouses; it is increasingly available to discerning consumers.

  • Value-added opportunity – Direct-to-consumer Wagyu beef sales (freezer beef, online sales, farmers markets) offer even higher margins than commodity markets.

Investing in Wagyu genetics is an investment in the future of your beef operation.

The Two Paths: Breeding Bull vs. Beef Finishing

A Wagyu bull calf can take two very different paths on your farm. Understanding both helps you make the right choice.

Path 1: Breeding Bull

A quality Wagyu bull can be the cornerstone of a crossbreeding program. When bred to Angus cows, he produces:

Cross

Description

Market Premium

F1 American Wagyu

50% Wagyu / 50% Angus

2–3× conventional beef

Purebred Wagyu

100% Wagyu genetics

Highest premium

What a breeding bull needs:

  • Proper nutrition to reach breeding condition

  • Safe fencing and handling facilities

  • Separate housing from cows until breeding season

  • A breeding plan (how many cows, when to breed)

Path 2: Beef Finishing

If you choose not to use the calf for breeding, he can be finished for the premium beef market. Wagyu steers produce some of the most valuable beef in the world.

What a finishing animal needs:

  • Extended feeding period (Wagyu are typically fed 500–700 days, much longer than conventional beef)

  • High-energy ration (often including grain for marbling development)

  • Low-stress environment (stress negatively affects marbling)

  • Patience (Wagyu take longer to reach market weight)

Not sure which path is right for you? Contact us. We are happy to discuss your goals and help you choose the right calf.

The Crossbreeding Advantage: Wagyu × Angus

For most commercial beef producers, the smartest entry into Wagyu is crossbreeding. Using a Wagyu bull on high-quality Angus cows produces F1 American Wagyu calves that offer the best of both breeds.

Wagyu genetics contribute:

  • Exceptional marbling potential

  • Rich, buttery flavor profile

  • Premium market pricing

Angus genetics contribute:

  • Faster growth rates

  • Excellent feed efficiency

  • Good muscling and carcass weight

The result: F1 American Wagyu calves that grow well, marble beautifully, and command 2–3 times the price of standard beef. This is a proven strategy used by premium beef producers across the country.

If you already have a quality Angus herd, adding a Wagyu bull is one of the fastest ways to increase the value of your calf crop.

What Do Wagyu Bull Calves Need?

Before bringing a Wagyu bull calf home, ensure you are prepared:

Fencing – 5-foot secure fencing. Bulls (even young ones) are powerful. High-tensile electric or woven wire with electric offset is recommended.

Shelter – A three-sided shed or barn for protection from extreme weather. Bulls need shade in summer and wind protection in winter.

Hay and pasture – Access to good-quality grass hay and, ideally, pasture for exercise and foraging.

Fresh water – Clean, unfrozen water at all times. Growing bulls drink 5–10 gallons per day.

Feed plan – Weaned calves need a transition ration. We can advise on feeding programs for either breeding bull development or beef finishing.

Separate housing – If you plan to keep a bull for breeding, he will need separate housing from your cow herd except during planned breeding seasons. Young bulls can be kept together temporarily.

A companion – Cattle are herd animals. A single bull calf will need other cattle (steers or heifers) for companionship.
