Buy Premium Wagyu Cattle: The Genetics Behind the World's Most Prized Beef
Cows, bulls, and calves — premium Wagyu genetics for the discerning beef producer. Available now from Wann Ranch in Oklahoma.
Wagyu is not just another breed. It is the pinnacle of beef genetics — the result of centuries of Japanese selection for one singular trait: extraordinary marbling. When you invest in Wagyu cattle, you are investing in the most valuable beef in the world.
At Wann Ranch, we offer premium Wagyu cattle to beef producers across America. Whether you are looking for your first Wagyu bull, building a purebred herd, or expanding an existing program, our animals carry the genetics that command premium prices.
Why Wagyu? The Economics of Premium Beef
The Wagyu market is not a trend. It is a fundamental shift in how consumers value beef. American Wagyu beef consistently commands 2–3 times the price of conventional beef at wholesale — and significantly more at retail and restaurant levels.
Here is why Wagyu makes financial sense for your operation:
Superior marbling – Wagyu cattle marble more intensively and at an earlier age than any other breed. Higher marbling means higher USDA grades and premium pricing.
Crossbreeding premium – A Wagyu bull used on quality Angus cows produces F1 American Wagyu calves that combine Wagyu marbling with Angus growth and hardiness. These calves sell for significant premiums.
Growing demand – The market for premium and luxury beef continues to expand annually. Wagyu is no longer just for high-end steakhouses; it is increasingly available to discerning consumers through direct marketing.
Value-added opportunity – Direct-to-consumer Wagyu beef sales (freezer beef, online sales, farmers markets) offer even higher margins than commodity markets. Many small producers build entire businesses around Wagyu.
Genetic leverage – One quality Wagyu bull can upgrade an entire herd. The return on investment from a premium bull is substantial and long-lasting.
Investing in Wagyu genetics is one of the smartest moves a beef producer can make.
Understanding Wagyu Genetics: Fullblood vs. American
Not all Wagyu are created equal. Understanding the differences helps you make the right choice for your operation.
Fullblood Wagyu are 100% Japanese genetics — direct descendants of Japanese cattle with no crossbreeding. Fullbloods carry the highest marbling potential (BMS 8–12) and command the highest prices. They require more management and attention than crossbred animals.
American Wagyu typically refers to Wagyu × Angus crosses. Percentage Wagyu varies (commonly 50–93%). These animals are more adaptable to US conditions while still producing elevated marbling (BMS 6–9). They grow faster than fullbloods and are generally easier to manage.
F1 (First Cross) Wagyu × Angus is the most common entry point for producers. These 50% Wagyu / 50% Angus calves combine Wagyu marbling with Angus growth and hardiness. F1 animals are highly sought after for both finishing and breeding.

What Wagyu Cattle Are Available?
At Wann Ranch, we offer a range of Wagyu cattle depending on current availability:
Wagyu Bulls – The fastest way to upgrade your herd. A quality Wagyu bull used on Angus cows produces F1 calves that sell for significant premiums. Bulls can also be used for purebred breeding or for finishing as steers (if castrated).
Wagyu Cows – The foundation of a purebred or percentage breeding program. Quality Wagyu cows produce valuable calves year after year. Bred cows and open cows available depending on stock.
Wagyu Calves – Steers, heifers, and bull calves available. Calves are the most affordable entry point and allow you to raise the animal yourself.
Current availability changes frequently. Contact us to discuss what Wagyu cattle we have available now, including lineage, percentage, pricing, and delivery options.
The Crossbreeding Advantage: Wagyu × Angus
For most commercial beef producers, the smartest entry into Wagyu is crossbreeding. Using a Wagyu bull on high-quality Angus cows produces F1 American Wagyu calves that offer the best of both breeds.
Trait | Wagyu Contribution | Angus Contribution |
|---|---|---|
Marbling | Exceptional (BMS 6-9) | Good (BMS 3-6) |
Growth Rate | Moderate | Excellent |
Feed Efficiency | Good | Excellent |
Muscling | Moderate | Good |
Hardiness | Moderate | Excellent |
The result: F1 American Wagyu calves that grow well, marble beautifully, and command 2–3 times the price of standard beef. This is a proven strategy used by premium beef producers across the country.
If you already have a quality Angus herd, adding a Wagyu bull is one of the fastest ways to increase the value of your entire calf crop.
What Do Wagyu Cattle Need?
Wagyu cattle require the same basic care as other beef breeds, with a few important considerations:
Fencing – 5-foot secure fencing. Bulls (even young ones) are powerful. High-tensile electric or woven wire with electric offset is recommended.
Shelter – A three-sided shed or barn for protection from extreme weather. Wagyu benefit from shade in summer and wind protection in winter.
Hay and pasture – Access to good-quality grass hay and, ideally, pasture for exercise and foraging. Wagyu are efficient grazers.
Fresh water – Clean, unfrozen water at all times. Growing cattle drink 5–15 gallons per day depending on size and temperature.
Nutrition – Wagyu benefit from high-quality nutrition, especially for marbling development. We can advise on feeding programs for breeding stock vs. finishing cattle.
Low-stress handling – Stress negatively affects marbling. Wagyu do best in calm, low-stress environments with gentle handling.
A companion – Cattle are herd animals. No Wagyu should live alone.

The Wagyu Market Opportunity
The American Wagyu market has grown substantially over the past decade and continues to expand annually.
Wholesale premiums – F1 Wagyu × Angus calves often sell for 2–3× conventional calf prices. Finished Wagyu beef commands similarly significant premiums.
Direct-to-consumer – Many small Wagyu producers sell freezer beef directly to consumers at $8–$15 per pound hanging weight — far above commodity beef prices.
Retail and restaurant – High-grade Wagyu steaks bring $30–$60+ per pound at retail. Restaurants are increasingly adding Wagyu burgers and steaks to their menus.
Breeding stock – Quality Wagyu breeding stock holds excellent value. A proven Wagyu bull or well-bred cow is a significant asset.
For the forward-thinking beef producer, Wagyu represents one of the best opportunities in the industry.
