Quality Nubian Goats for Sale: America's Favorite Dairy Breed
Rich, high-butterfat milk — friendly, personable, and productive. Does, bucks, and kids available. Now from Wann Ranch in Oklahoma, with nationwide delivery.
There is a reason Nubian goats are the most popular dairy goat breed in America. It is not just their distinctive floppy ears or their elegant Roman noses — though those certainly help. It is the milk. Rich, creamy, and loaded with butterfat, Nubian milk is the gold standard for cheesemakers, homesteaders, and artisan dairy producers.
At Wann Ranch, we take pride in offering quality Nubian goats — animals selected for milk production, butterfat, good conformation, and the gentle, personable temperament that makes Nubians such a joy to own.
What Makes a "Quality" Nubian Goat?
Not all Nubian goats are created equal. Over years of breeding and selection, certain traits have come to define a quality dairy animal. Our Nubians are chosen with these traits in mind.
Good milk production – A quality Nubian doe produces 1–2 quarts of milk per day. But volume is not everything. Consistency throughout lactation matters equally.
High butterfat – Nubian milk averages around 5% butterfat — among the highest of any dairy goat breed. This means richer milk, more cheese per gallon, and creamier yogurt and ice cream.
Strong conformation – Good structure means a longer productive life. Our Nubians have sound feet and legs, well-attached udders, and correct body capacity.
Good temperament – Nubians are naturally friendly and vocal. Quality animals are even-tempered, easy to handle, and bond well with their owners.
Health and hardiness – All our Nubians are fully vaccinated and raised on pasture. They are acclimated to outdoor living and regular handling.
These are not random goats. These are animals we have invested in and are proud to offer to discerning buyers.
Nubian Milk: Why Butterfat Matters
The butterfat content of milk determines its richness, flavor, and usefulness for dairy products.
Breed | Butterfat | Best For |
|---|---|---|
Nubian | ~5% | Cheese, yogurt, ice cream, fresh milk |
Alpine | ~3.5% | General purpose dairy |
Saanen | ~3.5% | High-volume milk production |
LaMancha | ~4% | Rich milk, good volume |
Nigerian Dwarf | ~6–10% | Extreme richness, small size |
What does 5% butterfat mean for you?
Better cheese yield – Higher butterfat milk produces more cheese per gallon. For home cheesemakers, this matters.
Richer flavor – Butterfat carries flavor compounds. Nubian milk tastes creamier and more satisfying.
Thicker yogurt – No need to add thickeners. High-butterfat milk sets into luxuriously thick yogurt.
Easier butter making – More butterfat means more butter per gallon of milk.
Cream that rises – Nubian milk produces a thick, golden cream layer when left to settle.
If you are serious about dairy — whether for home use or small-scale sales — Nubian milk delivers.
What Nubian Goats Are Available?
Depending on current stock, we offer a range of quality Nubian goats:
Does (females) – The heart of any dairy operation. Available as:
Milking does – Currently in milk, producing immediately.
Bred does – Pregnant and due to kid within a few months.
Open does – Ready to be bred on your timeline.
Doe kids – Young females to raise as your future milkers.
Bucks (intact males) – For breeding programs. A quality Nubian buck can service multiple does and pass on excellent genetics. Bucks require separate housing from does except during planned breeding.
Wethers (castrated males) – Friendly, gentle companions. Wethers do not produce milk but make wonderful pets and can help clear brush. They can also be kept with does without breeding concerns.
Kids (young goats) – The most affordable entry point. Raise them yourself, bond with them from a young age, and they will be exceptionally gentle when they mature.

Who Are Quality Nubian Goats Best For?
Nubian goats are remarkably versatile and fit a wide range of owners and operations:
Homesteaders – You want fresh, rich milk for your family. A couple of Nubian does will provide plenty of milk for drinking, cheese, yogurt, and butter. They are friendly, easy to handle, and fit well on smaller acreage.
Artisan cheesemakers – You are making cheese for market or personal use. Nubian milk's high butterfat gives better yield and richer flavor. Many award-winning farmstead cheeses start with Nubian milk.
First-time goat owners – Nubians are friendly, forgiving, and easy to work with. Their vocal nature means they will let you know when something is wrong — helpful for beginners. They bond strongly with their owners.
Small dairy operators – You are selling milk, cheese, or soap at farmers markets. Nubian milk's quality and butterfat content make it highly marketable.
Families with children – Nubians are gentle and enjoy human interaction. Their floppy ears and talkative personalities make them endlessly entertaining for children.
Show and 4-H projects – Nubians are popular show goats. Their distinctive appearance and friendly temperaments make them excellent project animals for youth.
Breeders – Quality Nubian breeding stock is always in demand. A well-bred Nubian doe or buck can be the foundation of a successful breeding program.
What Do Nubian Goats Need?
Nubian goats are relatively easy keepers, but they have specific requirements:
Fencing – Goats are notorious escape artists. 4–5 foot woven wire or no-climb horse fencing is strongly recommended. Electric fencing can be an effective supplement.
Shelter – A three-sided shed or small barn provides protection from wind, rain, snow, and extreme heat. Goats need a dry, draft-free place to lie down.
Hay and pasture – Access to good-quality grass hay year-round. Pasture is ideal but not strictly necessary. Goats are browsers, not just grazers — they enjoy eating brush, weeds, and woody plants. This makes them excellent for clearing overgrown areas.
Fresh water – Clean, unfrozen water at all times. A doe in milk drinks significantly more water than a dry goat.
Mineral supplement – Goats need a loose mineral formulated specifically for goats (not for sheep). Copper is essential for goats but toxic to sheep, so sheep minerals will harm goats.
Hoof care – Goat hooves grow continuously and need trimming every 4–8 weeks. Regular trimming prevents lameness and infection.
Veterinary care – Annual vaccines, deworming (goats are prone to internal parasites), and routine health checks.
A companion – Goats are herd animals and should never be kept alone. A single goat will be stressed and unhealthy. Plan for at least two. Nubians do well with other Nubians or other goat breeds.

Quality vs. Price: Why Genetics Matter
In the goat world, as in all livestock, you get what you pay for.
Lower-priced goats often come from unknown or unselected genetics. They may produce less milk, have lower butterfat, be harder to handle, or have conformation issues that shorten their productive lives. You might save money upfront, but you pay over time in reduced production and more management challenges.
Quality goats cost more initially but deliver better returns:
Higher daily milk production
Higher butterfat percentage (better cheese yield)
Easier handling (less stress for you and the animal)
Longer productive life (more years of milk)
Better market value for offspring
Investing in quality genetics pays off. Our Nubians are not culls or random animals. They are the result of careful selection for the traits that matter most to dairy producers.
