Wagyu Bulls for Sale: The Smartest Investment in Premium Beef
Premium Wagyu genetics — bulls and bull calves ready to upgrade your herd. Available now from Wann Ranch in Oklahoma.
In the beef business, genetics are everything. And in the world of premium beef, Wagyu genetics are the gold standard. A quality Wagyu bull is not just an animal — it is an investment that pays dividends for years to come.
At Wann Ranch, we offer Wagyu bulls and bull calves to beef producers across America. Whether you are looking for a mature bull ready to go to work this season or a young bull calf to raise for future service, our Wagyu genetics deliver the marbling potential that commands premium prices.
Why Invest in a Wagyu Bull?
The numbers do not lie. A quality Wagyu bull used in crossbreeding with Angus cows produces F1 American Wagyu calves that command 2–3 times the price of conventional beef. Over a single breeding season, a bull can cover 25–30 cows. Over his lifetime (8–10 breeding seasons), the premium generated is substantial.
Here is why Wagyu bulls make financial sense:
Immediate ROI – The first calf crop pays significant dividends. F1 Wagyu × Angus calves sell for 2–3× conventional calf prices.
Genetic leverage – One bull upgrades your entire calf crop. You do not need to replace your cow herd — just change the sire.
Growing demand – The Wagyu market continues to expand annually. Premium beef consumers are willing to pay for quality.
Direct marketing opportunity – If you sell freezer beef directly to consumers, Wagyu genetics allow you to command premium prices.
Breeding stock value – A quality Wagyu bull retains excellent value. If you decide to sell him later, he will be worth more than you paid.
For the forward-thinking beef producer, a Wagyu bull is one of the best investments available.
Crossbreeding: The Proven Strategy
You do not need a purebred Wagyu herd to benefit from Wagyu genetics. Crossbreeding is the most common and accessible entry point for commercial producers.
The math is simple:
Cross | Result | Market Premium |
|---|---|---|
Wagyu bull × Angus cow | F1 American Wagyu (50% Wagyu / 50% Angus) | 2–3× conventional beef |
Fullblood Wagyu × Fullblood Wagyu | Purebred Wagyu | Highest premium (5×+) |
Why Wagyu × Angus works so well:
Wagyu contributes – Exceptional marbling (BMS 6–9), rich flavor profile, premium market pricing
Angus contributes – Faster growth rates, excellent feed efficiency, good muscling, cold hardiness
The result: F1 American Wagyu calves that grow well, marble beautifully, and command premium prices. This is a proven strategy used by successful premium beef producers across the country.
If you already have a quality Angus herd, adding a Wagyu bull is the fastest way to increase the value of your entire calf crop.
What Wagyu Bulls Are Available?
At Wann Ranch, we offer a range of Wagyu bulls depending on current availability:
Mature Wagyu bulls are ready to go to work immediately. Aged 18 months to several years, these bulls are proven or well-started in breeding soundness. They come with breeding soundness exams (BSE can be arranged) and are fully vaccinated. Mature bulls are the fastest way to upgrade your calf crop this season.
Waguy bull calves are young bulls, typically weaned and 6–12 months old. They are the more affordable option, allowing you to raise the bull yourself before putting him to work. Bull calves are ideal for producers with patience who want to invest in future genetics.
Fullblood vs. American Wagyu – Fullblood Wagyu are 100% Japanese genetics with BMS 8–12 potential. They command the highest prices and require more management. American Wagyu (typically Wagyu × Angus) are more adaptable to US conditions with BMS 6–9 potential, offering better growth and hardiness.
Current availability changes frequently. Contact us to discuss what Wagyu bulls and bull calves are available now, including lineage, percentage, age, and pricing.
Breeding Soundness and Health
A bull is only valuable if he is fertile and healthy. Our Wagyu bulls come with:
Complete vaccination records – All routine vaccinations appropriate for age
Trichomoniasis testing – As required for interstate transport
Brucellosis testing – As required by regulations
Breeding soundness exam (BSE) – Can be arranged before purchase
Health certificate (CVI) – Provided for interstate transport
We take bull health seriously. When you buy a Wagyu bull from Wann Ranch, you are getting an animal that has been vetted and is ready to work.
What Does a Wagyu Bull Need?
Wagyu bulls require standard bull management with a few considerations:
Fencing – 5-foot secure fencing. Bulls are powerful and can test fences. High-tensile electric or woven wire with electric offset is strongly recommended.
Shelter – A three-sided shed or barn for protection from extreme weather. Bulls need shade in summer and wind protection in winter.
Hay and pasture – Access to good-quality grass hay and, ideally, pasture for exercise. Bulls on a breeding ration need proper nutrition.
Fresh water – Clean, unfrozen water at all times. A working bull drinks 10–20 gallons per day.
Separate housing – Bulls must be housed separately from cows except during planned breeding seasons. They can be kept together with other bulls temporarily but may become competitive.
Breeding plan – Know how many cows you plan to breed and for how long. A mature bull can typically handle 25–30 cows per season.

Wagyu vs. Angus vs. Other Beef Breeds
Breed | Marbling Potential | Growth Rate | Feed Efficiency | Market Premium |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Wagyu | Exceptional (BMS 6–12) | Moderate | Good | 2–5× conventional |
Wagyu × Angus (F1) | Excellent (BMS 6–9) | Good | Good | 2–3× conventional |
Angus | Good (BMS 3–6) | Good | Good | Moderate (CAB) |
Hereford | Good (BMS 3–5) | Good | Good | Moderate |
Charolais | Moderate (BMS 2–4) | Excellent | Excellent | Low |
For beef quality and premium pricing, Wagyu stands alone. For the best balance of marbling and growth, F1 Wagyu × Angus is the sweet spot.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the ROI on a Wagyu bull?
A quality Wagyu bull covering 25–30 Angus cows per season produces F1 American Wagyu calves selling for 2–3× conventional Angus prices. Over 8–10 breeding seasons, the premium generated is substantial. Most producers recoup their investment in the first calf crop.
Proven or unproven bulls — what is available?
We have both proven bulls (with documented progeny) and young unproven bulls depending on current stock. Contact us to discuss what is available.
What health testing do Wagyu bulls have?
All bulls include complete vaccination records and are tested for Trichomoniasis and Brucellosis as required by interstate regulations. A breeding soundness exam (BSE) can be arranged before purchase.
Fullblood or American Wagyu — which is better?
Fullblood Wagyu (100% Japanese genetics) have higher marbling potential (BMS 8–12) but slower growth.
